Gaziantep's first fast of 2027 is on Mon 8 February: imsak 05:59, iftar 18:09, 12 h 10 min of fasting. Sunset there comes 27 minutes before Istanbul, and the gap reaches 32 minutes by the end of the month. The last fast is on Mon 8 March: imsak 05:26, iftar 18:37, 13 h 11 min. Laylat al-Qadr is the evening of Fri 5 March, with iftar at 18:34, and the first day of Eid is Tue 9 March. Because it lies in the south, Gaziantep's average fast is 12 h 39 min, 4 minutes more than Istanbul's. The times in these tables were worked out on this site by applying the Diyanet's parameters, then compared day by day with the Diyanet's Gaziantep calendar. They agree to the minute 94.6% of the time and never more than 1 minute apart. The official Diyanet calendar governs the start and end of the fast.

The last ten days and Laylat al-Qadr

The final ten days of Ramadan, with retreat (itikaf) and the night of Qadr, are the most intense. Here are Gaziantep's computed times for those days; Laylat al-Qadr is the evening of the marked row.

Why fasts run longer in the south

In late winter, days are longer in southern cities: dawn breaks earlier and the sun sets a bit later. That is why Gaziantep's first fast is longer than Istanbul's. Towards March, as day and night even out, the gap closes, and on the last day the two are almost equal (Gaziantep 13 h 11 min, Istanbul 13 h 12 min). The Diyanet explains the effect on its comparison page.

Method and the official calendar

Imsak is when the sun reaches 18 degrees below the horizon (Diyanet on imsak); iftar is sunset plus a 7-minute margin. Gaziantep's computed times match the Diyanet calendar 94.6% of the time, 1 minute off otherwise. For worship follow the official Diyanet calendar. Live countdown: minutes to iftar.

Gaziantep in 2028
