In 2027, someone who places 10 days of annual leave well gets 32 days off in total, over 4 separate breaks, once weekends and public holidays are added: on average each leave day is worth 3.2 days. The best split is 5 days of leave for 1–10 January 2027 (10 days), 2 days around Eid al-Fitr for 6–14 March 2027 (9 days), 2 days around Eid al-Adha for 15–23 May 2027 (9 days) and 1 day for 15–18 July 2027 (4 days). The year has 3 true bridge days, single working days stuck between a holiday and a weekend: Mon 8 March, Fri 12 March, Fri 16 July. The calculation assumes Saturdays and Sundays off, and a full leave day for the morning of a festival eve. With only Sunday off, the same 10 days give 27 days.
The exact answer for a 10-day budget
The planner does not guess. It splits the year into blocks of days off and working days, then uses dynamic programming to find the largest total of days off your leave budget can reach, preferring the option that uses less leave on a tie. Here is the plan for 10 days.
| Book leave on | Leave | Break | Days | Thanks to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon 4 January, Tue 5 January, Wed 6 January, Thu 7 January, Fri 8 January | 5 | 1–10 January 2027 | 10 | New Year's Day |
| Mon 8 March, Fri 12 March | 2 | 6–14 March 2027 | 9 | Eid al-Fitr |
| Thu 20 May, Fri 21 May | 2 | 15–23 May 2027 | 9 | Eid al-Adha and Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day |
| Fri 16 July | 1 | 15–18 July 2027 | 4 | Democracy and National Unity Day |
One thing stands out: the January block takes five leave days on its own. New Year's Day falls on a Friday, so covering the whole of the following week gives a 10-day winter break. In March and May two days are enough, because the festival already fills the middle of the week and leave only goes on the edges.
True bridges: one day, four days off
A bridge is a working day trapped between a holiday and a weekend. 2027 has 3. Monday 8 March 2027 is the Eid al-Fitr eve: the morning is worked and the afternoon is off, so it still costs a leave day. Friday 12 March 2027 sits between the end of the festival and the weekend. Friday 16 July 2027 follows Democracy Day on a Thursday. 2026 had four one-day bridges; in 2027, 23 April, 29 October and New Year's Day already fall on Fridays, so they make long weekends without any leave.
Longer blocks: four leave days, nine days off
Beyond single bridges, covering the four working days on one side of a holiday joins two weekends. In 2027 that pattern works for National Sovereignty and Children's Day (17–25 April 2027), Victory Day (28 August – 5 September 2027), Republic Day (23–31 October 2027). These blocks are not in the 10-day plan because they return less per leave day, but they come in as the budget grows.
| Leave budget | Days off | Days per leave day | Breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 15 | 5 | 2 |
| 5 | 22 | 4.4 | 3 |
| 10 | 32 | 3.2 | 4 |
| 14 | 41 | 2.9 | 5 |
| 20 | 54 | 2.7 | 6 |
If you work Saturdays, or the eve counts as half a day
On a six-day week the blocks shrink: the same 10 days give 27 days off, and the Saturday of Kurban Bayramı week must be covered by leave too. Where the employer books the eve morning as half a leave day, the Eid al-Fitr eve gets cheaper and the total rises to 33. Check your entitlement with the annual leave calculator; under the Labour Act leave may be split only by agreement, with one part of at least 10 days, so short pieces need your employer's consent.

For festival-only plans use the holiday length calculator; the dates are on Ramazan Bayramı 2027, Kurban Bayramı 2027 and public holidays 2027. Next year's plan is on bridge days 2028.
